CI Case 270

Cryonics Institute Case Report for Patient Number 270
CI patient #270 was a 67 year old male from Florida. The patient was a CI member at the time of his death.
The patient died at a hospice care facility on May 9, 2025. The patient was immediately cooled with ice and the local funeral home began making transportation arrangements. The patient was flown to Detroit Metro Airport and arrived at the CI facility at 10:05 pm on May 10, 2025.
Upon the patient’s arrival at the CI facility, he was transferred to the operating table in the perfusion room. The patient’s temperature was 1.8c.
Hillary McCauley performed the perfusion. The perfusion started at 10:55 pm and was completed at 12:45 am. During the perfusion there were 3 liters of 5% EG solution, 3 liters of 10% EG solution, 4 liters of 30% EG solution used, and 14 liters of 70% VM1 solution used. Only the patient’s head was perfused. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the right jugular vein was 1.4219. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the left jugular vein was 1.4200. The average perfusion pressure was held at 120mmHg and metal cannulas were used. Flow rate was held at 0.22 L/min for the perfusion. The nasal temperature was -0.65c at the end of the perfusion.
There were very small blood clots noted during the perfusion and the flow from both of the jugular veins was slow, but steady. Bronzing of the skin was noted, along with slight patches of swelling through the patient’s face.
The patient was then transferred to the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to liquid nitrogen temperature. The human vitrification program was selected and the time needed to cool the patient to liquid nitrogen temperature was five days and 11 hours. The patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
