CI Case 295

Cryonics Institute Case Report for Patient Number 295
CI patient #295 was a 79 year old male from Nebraska. The patient was a CI member at the time of his death.
The patient contracted for standby, stabilization and transport with Suspended Animation. Suspended Animation was on site when the patient died on September 3, 2026 near midnight. Suspended Animation used private air transport to transport the patient to Michigan.
The patient arrived at the CI facility on September 4th at 12:44pm, about 12 hours after death. The perfusion was started at 1:05pm. The patient was perfused through the aorta, using the canula that was left in place by Suspended Animation. The perfusion was completed at 4:31pm. During the perfusion there were 8 liters of 5% Eg, 10 liters of 10% Eg, 15 liters of 30% Eg, and 150 liters of 70% VM1 solution used. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the vena cava was 1.4220. The average perfusion pressure was held at 82mm. Flow rate started at 1.82 liters per minute and was reduced to 1.24 liters per minute by the end of the perfusion. The nasal temperature was -8.7c at the end of the perfusion.
There were no blood clots noted during the perfusion and there was good flow from the vena cava. Significant dehydration of the head, face and body was noted along with a bronzing of the skin and no edema. The perfusion to both the head and body was successful.
The patient was then transferred to the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to -196c. The human vitrification program was selected and the time needed to cool the patient to -196 was five days and 12 hours. The patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
