CI Case 256
Cryonics Institute Case Report for Patient Number 256
CI patient #256 was a 64 year old male from Indiana. The patient was a CI member at the time of his death.
CI was contacted by a funeral home in Indiana and alerted of the member’s death on April 22, 2024 at about 9:30am. The funeral home said the patient was discovered deceased at home and they picked up the patient on the evening of April 21st and placed him in refrigeration with ice around his head. The cause of death is unknown at the time of the writing of the report. The funeral home was instructed to immediately cover the patient in ice and arrange for transport to CI. The patient arrived at CI at 7:05 pm on the 22nd. The patient arrived with only a few ice packs and was not completely packed in ice, as requested.
A perfusion was attempted, but almost immediately stopped due to edema and no return flow. Based on physical observations of the patient, it is possible that the patient may have been deceased for a couple days longer than first estimated.
The patient was then transferred to the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to liquid nitrogen temperature. The cooling took three days and the patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
