CI Case 240
Cryonics Institute Case Report for Patient Number 240
CI patient #240 was a 37 year old male from New Jersey. The patient was a CI member at the time of his death.
The patient died at home under hospice care at approximately 11:30am on February 13th, 2023. Suspended Animation was present at the time of death and provided standby, stabilization and transport services to the patient.
The patient arrived at the CI facility on February 14, 2023 at 10am. The nasal temperature upon his arrival was -0.3c.
The perfusion was started at 10:30am. The perfusion was completed at 12:15 pm. During the perfusion there were 5 liters of 10% Eg solution, 5 liters of 30% Eg solution and 142 liters of 70% VM1 solution used. The patient was perfused through the aorta and drainage was from the right arterial appendage, using the cannula that Suspended Animation left in place from their procedures. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the right arterial appendage was 1.4242. The average perfusion pressure was held at 118mm. Flow rate started at 1.71 liters per minute and was reduced to 1.47 liters per minute by the end of the perfusion. The nasal temperature was -11.9c at the end of the perfusion.
There were no blood clots noted during the perfusion. Significant dehydration of the head and entire body was noted, along with a bronzing of the skin and no edema. The full body perfusion of the patient was very successful.
The patient was then transferred to the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to liquid nitrogen temperature. The human vitrification program was selected and the time needed to cool the patient to liquid nitrogen temperature was five days and 11 hours. The patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
