CI Case 228
Cryonics Institute Case Report for Patient Number 228
CI patient #228 was a 69 year old male from Washington. The patient was a CI member at the time of his death.
The patient died at home under hospice care at approximately 3:50am on August 1st, 2022. The patient’s wife initiated cooling with ice. The local funeral director picked up the patient and brought him back to their funeral home where more ice was added to cool the patient. The funeral director then obtained the permits necessary to have the patient flown to CI.
The patient arrived at the CI facility on August 2nd at 10:30am. The nasal temperature upon arrival was 7.1c, The perfusion was started at 10:55am. Full body perfusion was attempted, but quickly turned to neuro perfusion due to lack of flow to the body. The perfusion was completed at 12:20pm. During the perfusion there were 3 liters of 30% Eg solution used, and 14 liters of 70% VM1 solution used. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the right jugular vein was 1.4162. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the left jugular vein was 1.4202. The average perfusion pressure was held at 118mm and metal cannulas were used. Flow rate started at .4 liters per minute and was reduced to 0.27 liters per minute by the end of the perfusion. The nasal temperature was 1c at the end of the perfusion.
The perfusion was stopped due to edema in the patient’s head.
The patient was then transferred to the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to liquid nitrogen temperature. The human vitrification program was selected and the time needed to cool the patient to liquid nitrogen temperature was 6 days. The patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
