CI Case 206
Cryonics Institute Case Report for Patient Number 206
CI patient #206 was an 89 year old female from California. The patient was a CI member at the time of her death.
The patient died at home under hospice care at approximately 11:55pm on April 10, 2021. Suspended Animation team members administered cryonics medications and placed the patient in an ice bath to cool the patient. They worked with a local funeral director to have the patient flown to Michigan, packed in water ice.
The patient arrived at the CI facility at 9:33am on April 12th, about 33 hours and 30 minutes after death.
Kristen Orme performed the surgery for perfusion. The nasal temperature at the start of the perfusion was 2.3c. The perfusion started at 10:15am and was terminated at 10:46am due to extreme edema in the patient’s head and face. Only the patient’s head was perfused because of the extended time delay from the time of death until the perfusion started. During the perfusion there were 3 liters of 30% Eg solution and 6 liters of 70% VM1 solution used. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the right jugular vein was 1.4009. The average perfusion pressure was held at 111mm and metal cannulas were used. Flow rate started at 1.3 liters per minute and was reduced to 1.2 liters per minute by the end of the perfusion. The nasal temperature was -1.8c at the end of the perfusion.
There were very minimal blood clots noted during the perfusion and there was good flow from both of the jugular veins at the start, but the flow soon slowed as the fluids were being forced into the tissues and not coming out.
The patient was then transferred to the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to liquid nitrogen temperature. The patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
