CI Case 205
Cryonics Institute Case Report for Patient Number 205
CI patient #205 was a 79 year old male from Texas. The patient was a CI member at the time of his death.
The patient died on February 21, 2021. The patient was found dead at his home, Sunday morning, from an apparent heart attack. It is estimated that death occurred sometime between midnight and 8am. Because the death was not observed, the patient did not receive prompt cooling or heparin. A local funeral director that the patient had previously contracted with, retrieved the patient from the place of death and brought him back to their funeral home. The patient was packed in water ice and refrigerated while the funeral director worked to obtain a transit permit and arrange a flight. The patient flew out of Texas on February 22nd at 8am. The patient arrived at Detroit Metro Airport at 4:30pm, where he was picked up and brought to the CI facility. The patient arrived at our facility at 7:35pm. The nasal temperature of the patient was 2.9c. The perfusion started at 7:50pm. Many blood clots were observed. At the start of the perfusion there was good flow of effluents from the left jugular vein and very minimal flow from the right jugular. The perfusion was terminated at 8:15pm because of excessive edema in the head and face, and the flow from the jugulars had ceased.
The patient was then transferred to the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to liquid nitrogen temperature. The cooling of the patient to -196 took 88 hours. The patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
