CI Case 193
CI patient #193 was a 46 year old female from California. The patient was a CI member and hospitalized for pancreatic cancer at the time of her death.
The patient died on September 19th, 2020 at approximately 8am. The patient was signed up for the services of Suspended Animation (SA) and SA team members were present at the time of death. A report from SA will be available once it has been completed. Because of the restrictions due to the corona virus, obtaining transit permits and arranging for transport to Michigan was challenging. The patient arrived at Detroit Metro Airport on September 21st at 6am, packed in water ice. Because of issues with Detroit Metro Airport cargo, the patient was not released for several hours and arrived at the CI facility at 11:45am.
The perfusion started at 12:45pm and was finished at 1:55pm. A total of 3 liters of 30%EG and 19 liters of 70% VM1 were used. Sampling was taken only from the left jugular, as the right jugular was compromised. The final refractive index of the effluent from the left jugular was 2.4227. Slight edema in the face was noted.
The patient was then transferred to the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to liquid nitrogen temperature. The human vitrification program was selected and the time needed to cool the patient to liquid nitrogen temperature was 5 days and 12 hours. The patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
