CI Case 189
CI patient #189 was a 76 year old male from Florida. The patient was a CI member at the time of his death.
The patient deanimated on August 16th, 2020 at 8:03pm. A local funeral director went to the hospital, picked up the patient and cooled him in water ice. The patient was then prepared for transport to the CI facility in water ice.
The patient arrived at the CI facility, packed in ice, at 1am on August 18th, approximately 29 hours after death was pronounced. Nasal temperature was 5.5c upon arrival. The patient was transferred to the operating table and the perfusion was started at 2:17am.
Hillary Martenson performed the perfusion. During the perfusion there was 3 liters of 30% Eg solution used, and 12 liters of 70% VM1 solutions used. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the right jugular vein was 1.4214. The final refractive index of the effluents exiting the left jugular vein was 1.4217. The average perfusion pressure was held at 118mm and metal cannulas were used. Flow rate started at .75 liters per minute and was reduced to ..64 liters per minute by the end of the perfusion. Nasal temperature was .8c at the end of the perfusion.
A decision to perfuse only the head was made based on prior requests of the patient. Dehydration of the head and face was noted along with a bronzing color of the skin.
The patient was then placed in the computer controlled cooling chamber to cool to liquid nitrogen temperature. The human vitrification program was selected and the time needed to cool the patient to liquid nitrogen temperature was five days and 12 hours. The patient was then placed in a cryostat for long-term cryonic storage.
